According to the genealogy of Wang's family, Wang Mingfan was elected during the Xianfeng period of the Qing Dynasty and served as the magistrate of Wuning, Ruichang, Shangrao, Nankang, Fengcheng and Pingxiang in Jiangxi for 30 years. When he was appointed as the magistrate of Ruichang County, "the public advocated the building of a long dike to protect the rivers and lakes, which was called Wanggong Dike". When he was the magistrate of Pingxiang, he built the "Fuhuicang" to relieve the victims. "Pingxiang people sang praises and built more than 100 shrines." In 1900, the Eight Power Allied Forces captured Beijing, and Wang Mingfan, the "Two Palaces West Patrol", traveled thousands of miles to play the Holy Spirit. The imperial court praised his loyalty and granted him the title of "official in court". This century old house covers an area of 6600 square meters, with 28 patios, 48 main rooms and 16 wing rooms. It is the largest residential house in Hubei Province among the existing Ming and Qing buildings. There are more than 30 ancestral halls, family schools, stables, milling rooms, weaving rooms, firewood rooms, kitchens and factotums. There are also "Yiji Pharmacy", family theaters, prison rooms, etc., which are well equipped with food, clothing, housing and transportation. They are known as "the first house in Jiangnan" and "the first master's house in Chutian".
