Dalian Natural History Museum , a national (Dalian) 4A scenic spot, formerly known as the "Geological Survey Institute" founded by Japan's "South Manchuria Railway Co., Ltd." in 1907 after Japan invaded and occupied Northeast China. In 1923, after collecting a large number of natural specimens and data from various parts of the Northeast, the Institute added a showroom, which mainly displayed rock ore and some paleontological specimens, and noted the origin, reserves, mining value and use of the specimens, only for a few Japanese upper class people to watch and study.
It is located at the seashore of the beautiful Black Rock Reef, with a building area of 15000 square meters, surrounded by the sea on three sides and reefs. The new building is typical of modern European style. The blue roof, blue sea, blue sky and white clouds reflect each other, and the scenery is pleasant. The museum now collects more than 100000 specimens of various animals, plants, paleontology, rocks and minerals, of which the specimens of large marine mammals are the outstanding features of the museum. There are 11 exhibition halls in the museum, including Earth, dinosaurs, marine life, Northeast forest animals, wetlands, and species diversity, creating a convenient and comfortable environment for the audience to enjoy.
