Wanlv Lake , a national (Dongyuan County) 4A tourist attraction (rated as an AAAA tourist area by the National Tourism Administration in July 2002). It is the largest artificial lake in South China, also known as the Xinfengjiang Reservoir, and the largest eco-tourism scenic spot in South China. It is named after the green everywhere in the four seasons. In 1958, when preparing to build the Xinfengjiang Hydropower Station, it was formed by building a dam for impoundment in Yaposhan Canyon at the lower reaches of the Xinfeng River, which is only 6 kilometers away from Heyuan City, Guangdong Province.
In the late 1950s, a concrete dam with a dam height of 124 meters, a top width of 5 meters, and a dam length of 440 meters was built in Yaposhan Canyon, the narrowest part of the Xinfeng River, thus forming the first artificial lake in South China - Xinfengjiang Reservoir (Wanlu Lake). In 1995, the Wanlu Lake Scenic Area Management Committee was established, and the scenic area was officially opened to the public in the same year.
The "Back Garden Wanlu Lake" in the Pearl River Delta is a scenic spot built on the basis of Xinfengjiang Reservoir, and is famous for its "beautiful water". It has the beauty of plateau lakes, but it is not as difficult as the transportation on the plateau and the cold climate. At present, the main attractions of Wanlu Lake include Jinghuayuan, Guishan, Longfeng Island, Shuiyue Bay, Jinghua Ridge, Shuiguanyin, Wanlu Valley, etc.
In 1993, it was planned as a national forest park by the Ministry of Forestry of the People's Republic of China. Wanlu Lake took the lead in carrying out environmental protection tour activities in the country. Tour guides carry environmental protection bags, use environmental protection boats to tour, and protect the water quality of Wanlu Lake by means of "traveling in the lake and living outside the lake". Every year, Wanlu Lake holds various natural scenery and Hakka culture theme activities. The main attractions are: Longfeng Island, Jinghua Ridge, Guanyin Water Delivery, etc.
