Chairman Mao Memorial Hall is located in Tiananmen Square, covering an area of 5.72 hectares and a total construction area of 33867 square meters. It was built in November 1976, and was inaugurated and opened to the public on September 9, 1977. The main building is a colonnade shaped cube, with white marble plaques engraved with six gold characters of "Chairman Mao Memorial Hall" inlaid on the north and south fronts, and 44 square granite pillars surrounding the veranda, which is majestic, upright, solemn, and has a unique national style.
