Tashilhunpo Temple Xigaze, Tibet, an AAAA tourist attraction, is one of the six major Gelug monasteries (the other five are Ganden Temple, Zhebang Temple, Sera Temple, Thar Temple, and Labrang Temple), and is also the largest Gelug monastery of Tibetan Buddhism in Houzang. In 1447 AD, it was founded under the auspices of Dalai Gen Dun Juba, a disciple of the Grand Master Tsongkhapa, the founder of the Gelug Sect, and took 12 years to complete.
The most magnificent building in the temple is the Great Maitreya Hall, which is called "Qiangbakang" in Tibetan. The Buddha Hall has five floors, and there are two corridors below. The hall is thirty meters high, all of which are made of stone, and the joints are dense and solemn. The whole Buddha Hall is in the form of a ladder, which is folded up layer by layer. A lion lies on the top corner of each floor, and the hall is decorated with bronze pillars and golden tops, which is magnificent. In the middle is enshrined the gilded bronze Qiangba Buddha, the sitting statue of Maitreya Buddha, which was cast by Qu Jinima, the ninth Panchen Lama in 1914. The statue of Buddha is 26.2 meters high, squatting on the lotus base with a height of 3.8 meters, which is majestic. There are more than 1400 gemstones, such as diamonds, pearls, amber, coral, and turquoise, between the eyebrows of the Buddha. The Buddha's body consumes 6700 liang of gold and 230000 jin of brass. It is the largest copper statue of Buddha in the world.
